Bronwyn Bain
Image Image Image
Bronwyn Bain's works are inspired by the timeless quality of landscape and objects which evoke a sense of mystery where one is seduced into dreaming of another place and another time. "The irregular shapes of my drawings reflect the asymmetrical qualities of the landscape. I like to give a sense of the images being unpopulated, or being filled with the sense of those who have passed through them. With my frescos I wish to evoke a distressed, vacant/gone impression, with images stripped of their completeness or fullness, and remaining in a delicate faded space. Fresco painting has a beautiful mystical quality. The surface texture has a semblance of stone with an innocence of colour that cannot be found in other painting techniques. Our professor in Italy taught us to create frescoes as if we were cooking a delicate dish. With the mixing of the lime and sand, we had to almost learn to ‘hear’ when the surface was ready to be painted upon."
...a subtle,
strength...
