After completing a fine arts degree in 1994 Clare Whitney spent several years travelling and working in Western Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan. This resulted in the creation of miniature, colourful canvases in oil that together create an evolving jigsaw of pictures, each one a glimpse into her vivid imagination. Working with the traditional intaglio technique of drypoint etching, Clare also produces larger images featuring insects, birds and human outlines. Transparent forms are layered on top of one another to create a dreamlike composition of detailed images and mysterious silhouettes.
